Emerald Rams continue unbeaten run
The Emerald Rams continued their unbeaten run in round seven of the Central Highlands Rugby Union competition with a convincing 55-0 win over Rolleston at Morton Park.
After a heavy loss the weekend before, Rolleston were looking to restore some pride in the red, blue and white jersey and came out with all guns blazing.
But the Rams weathered the storm in front of a vocal home crowd and through some tight forward running and slick backline moves went to the halftime break up 21-0.
Rolleston’s defence held their opponents at bay early in the second half before the Rams experience and disciplined ball control saw them run away with the game, 55-0.
The best on ground for Emerald were halfback Troy Mattson, openside flanker Brad Doust, and Man of the Match Dougal Bailey.
In the other weekend game, Clermont played host to the Capella Cattledogs. After a close loss the week before to the defending premiers, Capella was keen to even up the points table.
Some dominant scrum and forward play saw them go out to an early 12-0 lead, however, Clermont clawed their way back before halftime to trial 12-7 at the break.
The second half saw some enterprising play from the Capella forward pack and their quick backs, who managed to score two unanswered tries to take the game to 24-7.
Try scorers for Capella were Andrew Molloy, Nick Wandke, Adam Foulstone and Tim Reeves, with the Best and Fairest awards going to Steve Curtis and Cameron Earea.
