Another full house for QRU Advanced coaching seminar

Thursday, 11 March 2010

The presence of Wallaby coach Robbie Deans has helped sell out this Sunday’s Queensland Rugby Advanced Coaching Seminar for the fourth consecutive year.

All 75 positions at the three hour Ballymore seminar on Sunday, March 14 have been filled by Level 2 or Level 3 coaches.

The seminar also features Wallaby Forwards coach Jim Williams and the Head of Player Development for the Brisbane Lions, Craig McRae, who will speak about general play kicking.

Deans will address the group on ‘decision making’ and Williams will discuss lineouts.

QRU State Education Manager Geno Costin said he wasn’t surprised by the popularity of the seminar as it’s an excellent opportunity for coaches to learn from the best in a small group environment.

“These seminars see a transfer of information from elite professional coaches to a community level, with the philosophies and approaches to the game of these three experienced coaches shared and discussed amongst the group,” Costin said.

“The expertise and knowledge the group gains from this seminar is invaluable to their growth and development as coaches.

"The enthusiasm of these coaches to proactively go out and learn more also ensures players at a junior and senior level get the benefit of up to date coaching and advice."

At the conclusion of the Investec Bank Super 14 season, Queensland Rugby will host a second Advanced Coaching Seminar, to be run by QR Reds coaches Ewen McKenzie, Jim McKay and Matt Taylor.

Sunday’s Advanced Coaching Seminar will be captured on DVD and made available for purchase later in the year.
