Horwill loses locks at Queen St Mall

QR Reds captain James Horwill shaves his head for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave
Friday, 12 March 2010

In a public shave-off at the Queen St Mall injured QR Reds captain James Horwill shaved his head in the name of charity, helping 12-year-old Sebastian Oliver raise more than their $10,000 target for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

The new look comes just a day after James, who is recovering from knee surgery, shaved the locks of Sebastian in front of his schoolmates at Brisbane Boys College (BBC).

Sebastian lost his rugby-loving uncle to Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in 2008. Motivated by his loss, Sebastian participated in the 2010 World’s Greatest Shave and enlisted the help of Horwill.

A past graduate of BBC, James was happy to lend his name, and his hair to the cause, with the pair as at today (Friday) having raised more than $12,500.

“I’m really impressed with Seb’s commitment and I’m only too pleased to do whatever I can to help raise money for this great cause.” he said

The Queensland Reds team passed the ‘hat’ around to help their Captain and Sebastian exceed the set target of raising $10,000.

“It’s an honour the boys and I have been able to help Seb reach his target and the team is more than happy to help the Leukaemia Foundation,” he said.

In 2010 around 10,000 people in Australia are expected to be diagnosed with a blood cancer or related blood disorder.

Vital medical research projects and free support services for patients and their families including emotional support and accommodation are just a few areas that will benefit from funds raised in the World’s Greatest Shave.
