St.George and QR Reds raise over $13,500 for QLD charities

St.George Bank is pleased to announce that following the QR Reds’ record breaking 50 point win over the Western Force on Sunday 14th March, the bank will donate $12,200 to the St.George Foundation. The money raised from this ‘cash for points’ initiative will go towards supporting Queensland charities that help disabled or disadvantaged children.

St.George Bank’s Managing Director for Queensland, Martin Barrett, said, “This is a fantastic result. The Reds played an outstanding match yesterday and we’re thrilled to be able to donate such a significant amount of money to the St.George Foundation.”

“Not only did the team put in a fantastic performance, but Reds fans and supporters at Suncorp stadium also dug deep adding a further $1,300 to the fundraising tally. This brings the total amount raised to over $13,500 which will be donated to assist QLD children in need,” Mr Barrett said.

“We’d like to thank both the Reds and fans for their generosity yesterday which has allowed us to make such a sizable donation in support of Queensland children’s charities,” Mr Barrett said.

Reds’ Captain, Will Genia, said the players got a double bonus – an important victory and the satisfaction of knowing their points scoring helped boost the contribution to a worthwhile cause from one of their major sponsors.

“It’s great to know that our efforts on the field will directly benefit underprivileged children in QLD, thanks to St.George Bank and the work of St.George Foundation,” he said.

“Thanks also to our fans who boosted the tally even further with their donations.”

St.George Bank established the St.George Foundation in 1990. The Foundation helps Aussie kids by raising funds to improve the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children.

In 2009, the Foundation distributed more than $1.2 million to 64 children’s charities throughout Australia, including over $100,000 in much needed funds to support QLD children’s charities.

St.George Bank absorbs all administration costs of the Foundation, so 100% of the funds raised from Sunday’s match will reach the kids who need them most. For further information on St.George Foundation, visit www.stgeorgefoundation.com.au/stgeorgefoundation.
