Anthony Faingaa
Anthony Faingaa started his professional rugby career alongside his twin brother Saia at the Brumbies in Canberra, after growing up in nearby Queanbeyan.
Anthony began his football career as a five year old with the Queanbeyan Kangaroos (rugby league). He attended St Edmund’s College where he first represented the school’s 1st XV aged 15.
He was vice captain of the Australian Schoolboys (2004) and the World Championship-winning Australian Under 19’s in 2006. Anthony sealed Australia’s 17-13 Under 19 final win over New Zealand with a late drop goal and was later nominated for the International Rugby Board’s Under 19 Player of the Year. He also represented the Australian Under 21’s in 2006.
Anthony made his Super 14 debut against the Bulls in 2007 after recovering from a Lisfranc fracture in his left foot and added a further two caps during the season, coming off the bench against the Stormers and Sharks.
A confident ball player and punishing defender, Anthony was called into the Australian Sevens side for the final two tournaments of the 2007 World Series in London and Edinburgh. He played in all eight matches for the Canberra Vikings in the Mazda Australian Rugby Championship, taking on the goal kicking duties at the back end of the season.
Anthony joined the Reds for their end of 2008 Development Tour to Ireland and France and made his full debut in 2009.
Following a year gaining experience mostly from the bench, Anthony was arguably the Reds breakout player of the year in 2010 as he filled the void left by Berrick Barnes at inside centre with ease.
While a dislocated shoulder ended his Super Rugby campaign one game short, Anthony's stout defence was a major reason behind the Reds success in 2010, while in attack he was a standout for a backline that included a host of Wallabies.
He joined the Wallaby ranks in July 2010, making his Test debut as Wallaby No 846 against the All Blacks in Melbourne alongside brother Saia, becoming the third set of twins to represent Australia. He and Saia started a Test together for the first time against the All Blacks a week later in Christchurch.
Away from rugby Anthony is interested in starting small business developments. Anthony has completed a Diploma of Business and is currently studying real estate at the Real Estate Institute of Queensland.
