The Gold Coast Breakers made up for last week’s disappointing finish by defeating the West Bulldogs 29-10 in slippery conditions at Sylvan Rd in Round 3 of Premier Rugby.
The Breakers led from start to finish, posting two quick tries to run away to a 12-0 lead after 10 minutes of play, leaving Wests' defence scratching their heads.
Gold Coast winger Phil Dumalow was instrumental in setting the tone for the game, crossing for the first try, and minutes later very nearly scoring again.
The Bulldogs did manage to turn it around, closing the half with strong phases of play, controlling the rest of the half until the dying minutes when the Breakers inside centre Matthew Langmack crossed the line on a great offensive run.
The second half was noted for solid defence and strong attack, with neither side scoring until the final minutes when Wests Captain Poutasi Luafutu crossed for the Bulldogs' only try.
Breakers coach Garrick Morgan was pleased with his side’s performance, an improvement on last week’s effort.
“We’re evolving as a team, we are only going to get better, and I think we got better this week,” Morgan said.
Wests' Coach Rob Murdoch had a positive outlook, saying his team didn’t start well by spotting Gold Coast 12 points, but bounced back well.
“We had an opportunity to get it to 22-17, but we turned one over and they scored from it.”
