QR 2008 State Championships

The QJRU State Championships are contested annually in the Under 13, Under 14, Under 15, Under 16 and Under 18 age groups.

The 2008 QR QJRU State Championships were held at Nudgee College from July 2 to July 5 with all Finals at Ballymore on Sunday 6th.

A raffle in support of the state championships produced the following result:

1st Prize: Mazda 2 – Margaret Rogerson, Urangan

2nd Prize: 2 x Tickets, Wallabies v All Blacks, Sat Sept 13, Suncorp Stadium – G Carmichael, The Grange

In 2008 our naming rights sponsor QR played a pivotal role in helping players from regional areas attend the championships, by providing support for the competition. The QJRU offers its sincere thanks to QR.

A special website was set up for the tournament, providing results and updates.

Through a joint initiative between the Queensland Government's Environment Protection Agency, QR, Brisbane City Council and the QJRU the QR State Champs was a Public Place Recycling Event. Special recycling bins, posters and banners encouraged the 1200 plus players, other participants and thousands of supporters each day to recycle their drink cans and bottles throughout the event at Nudgee College, Boondall.

"We believe by being involved in junior rugby players will develop many life skills. We believe we build better men. This recyling program and our partnership with the True Sport program are both ways we can guide young rugby players in some great life lessons" said Tony Reddy, QJRU President.
