Facility Development

The provision of a facility for your club can significantly enhance the quality of experience for club members. A facility allows a club to develop a sense of identity in the rugby community. However, planning for a facility is an involved and sometimes difficult task.

There are many factors to be considered when taking responsibility of a facility. Some of these would include:

Tenure

The type of agreement your Club has with the local council often reflects the relationship or philosophy council has with regards to its relationship with community organisations.

Each type of agreement has its benefits and limitations. Common agreements include:

  • Leases - Generally for an extended period (3-5yrs+); Club is responsible for management and maintenance of the lease area (ie: fields, clubhouse etc) including costs (e.g: electricity, lights rates)
  • License to occupy - usually 12 months or less depending on the sport (winter/summer); minimal fees and limited to no management and maintenance responsibility. Council usually maintains the field and buildings
  • Permits - Normally for a 'one off' event or activity

QRU Facility Standards

Facility standards have been outlined in document below, covering three levels:

  • 1. State - aimed at Premier Rugby Competition matches
  • 2. Regional - aimed at QCRU Farmoz Country Championships and Australian Rugby Shield fixtures
  • 3. Local - aimed at local club competition and training.

These standards are designed to guide the development and upgrading of facilities. This document will assist you in your justification for funding.
