Organisational Structure

Queensland Rugby Union is the state administrative body for rugby in Queensland, responsible for managing the development and running of the game. We are here to support the growth of this great game throughout Queensland.

Each year more than 11,500 games are played under the auspices of Queensland Rugby (excluding school-run competitions). 

The President of the QRU is Mr David Crombie, a former Chairman and Director and a Director of the ARU from 1999-2004. The Vice-Presidents are Tom McVeigh and Dick Marks.

Board of Directors

QRU is governed by the Board of Directors which comprises:

  • six directors elected by the Union
  • one Finance Director elected by the Union
  • one executive director appointed by the elected directors
  • one director who is a QRU contracted player nominated by the Queensland members of the Rugby Union Players' Association Inc

The Board appoints the Chief Executive Officer who reports to the Board.

The Board acts on behalf of the Delegate Members.

It is the Board's responsibility to direct management in the day-to-day operations of the Union and to provide the strategic direction for QRU.

QRU Organisational Overview 

Commercial Operations

Overall Role: Strengthen the Queensland Rugby and Reds brands, drive revenue-raising and new commercial business activities.

Responsibilities

  • securing and servicing commercial partners;
  • developing and implementing advertising, marketing and promotions strategies;
  • conducting market research;
  • ticketing and membership management;
  • event management including Super 12 matches; and
  • corporate hospitality.

Community Rugby

Overall Role: Securing and supporting the development and growth of grassroots rugby in Queensland and increasing both the quality and quantity of participation.

Responsibilities 

  • Growing the quantity of participants within Community Rugby;
  • Increasing the quality of participation experiences available within Community Rugby;
  • Improving the sustainability and viability of Community Rugby providers; and
  • Developing and delivering innovative and cutting-edge development programs and resources for players, coaches, umpires and administrators.

Finance and Administration Operations

Overall Role: Management of all QRU finances, HR responsibilities and administration of internal operations

Responsibilities

  • financial management;
  • office management.
  • human resources; and
  • information technology

High Performance Department

Overall Role: To ensure the QR Queensland Reds are the world's leading provincial rugby team in both playing performance and technical development and to manage the development of pathways to elite rugby in Queensland.

Responsibilities

  • Talent identification
  • Player development
  • Coaching and training
  • Off-field development for the Reds, Queensland A, Reds Academy and Queensland Academy of Sport under 19 squads.

Media and Communications

Overall Role: Management of all QRU communications aimed at raising the profile of the organisation and of all levels of rugby in Queensland.

Responsibilities

  • managing all media activities relating to the Reds;
  • website content management;
  • managing all community rugby communications;
  • liaising with media to increase the level of coverage of rugby in Queensland.
