The Ballymore Cup shifts into top gear this weekend with the Semi Finals and Finals being played in two divisions on Friday and Saturday.

Four regions are vying to be crowned Ballymore Cup Champions with schools from Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Rockhampton represented.

Forest Lake State High school scraped through their Division 1 Quarter Final with a 12-10 victory over Ormiston College, with the match only decided in the final seconds. They will meet Mountain Creek SHS who were ruthless against Mabel Park SHS in their quarter final to set themselves up as Ballymore Cup favourites.

In the other Division One semi-final, Rockhampton Grammar will take on the Gold Coast representative, Helensvale SHS. Helensvale secured a 7-0 victory over Northside Christian College in the quarter finals. After three unsuccessful campaigns, Rockhampton Grammar will be hungry for victory in 2008.

The Division Two semi finals will also be fiercely competitive, with a battle of the Western Brisbane state high schools in one semi final and two independent colleges contesting the second.

Ipswich State High School take on Corinda State High School with both schools searching for their first divisional title in the Ballymore Cup competition, while the bolters of the 2008 competition, Groves Christian College, will take on Emmanuel College in the second semi final.

On Sunday a QJRU U17 side will run out on Ballymore at 1:15pm to do battle with a NSWJRU U17 side for the new Chris Latham Shield.

The shield honours the NSW-born adopted Queenslander who became one of the best fullbacks in world rugby, and an example to young rugby players everywhere of the value of hard work and determination.

Sunday will be the first time since 1993 that NSWJRU and QJRU U17 sides have met. On that occasion, at Ballymore, Queensland beat NSW to end a run of three successive defeats.

There will also be a curtain raiser, with a NSWJRU U15 team to play a representative Brisbane Junior Rugby Union U15 side at midday.
